The firm's Transactional and Compliance services are provided by Jeremy Miller, Robin Humphries, Michael Thornhill, Lon Mickelson and, Mark Dicks. Our Transactional and Compliance services include counseling medical groups, individual physicians, IPAs, MSOs, health care facilities, companies and suppliers for organizational, operational and regulatory matters, "Stark" and fraud and abuse, compliance, managed care contracting, Medicare and Medicaid coverage and billing, licensing and certification, hospital-physician contracting, HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid audits, e-health, and medical practice and facility purchases, sales, syndications, affiliations, mergers and dissolutions.
The firm's Transactional and Compliance practice
group is headed by Jeremy Miller, a 1977 graduate of Northwestern
University School of Law, and a nationally recognized healthcare
law expert. Jeremy has published more than 50 articles and made
more than 120 presentations to local, state and national industry
organizations. He is also regularly quoted in various healthcare
law publications, including Medical Economics, American Medical
News, California Physician, and California Medicine. Jeremy is a
member of the American Medical Association's Doctors Advisory
Network and a former Chairman of the Los Angeles County Bar
Association's Healthcare Law Section, and former member of
the Medical Board of California's Corporate Practice of
Medicine Working Group. Jeremy has been recognized in 2006, 2007 and 2008 as
a "Super
Lawyer" by Los
Angeles Magazine.
Transactional and Compliance: Detailed Information
The firm's Litigation services are provided by Henry Fenton, R. Jeffery Ward and Diane Sherman. Henry is a 1969 graduate of the UCLA School of Law; Jeff is a 1986 graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Law School, and Diane is a 1981 graduate of UCLA School of Law. Henry has been recognized as one of the Lawyers of the Year by California Lawyer magazine. Our Litigation services include all healthcare litigation, arbitration and mediation, medical staff, Medical Board, and Medicare and Medicaid audit matters. Henry has published 22 articles on issues affecting physicians and also regularly lectures on these topics. Henry represented the plaintiff in Potvin vs. Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, a landmark California Supreme Court decided in May, 2000. The Potvin case established due process rights for physicians who have been terminated by managed care organizations.
Litigation: Detailed Information
The firm's labor and employment law services are provided primarily by Diane Sherman. Diane is a 1981 graduate of UCLA School of Law. Diane has more than 20 years of experience handling labor and employment matters, including wage and hour claims, occupational safety, RIFs, employment agreements, wrongful termination and discrimination actions, preparing employee handbooks and supervisor training.
Labor and Employment Law: Detailed Information
Our Taxation services are provided by Lon Mickelson. Lon is a 1973
graduate of Stanford University School of Law and magna cum
laude graduate of the University of Southern California. Lon
is a former Tax Partner at the 50+ attorney firm of Cooper,
Epstein, and Hurewitz. The firm's Taxation services include
federal and state corporate, partnership, pension and estate
planning tax issues.
